Welcome to Broken Road Forge, where passion meets craftsmanship in the heart of Minnesota. Founded by Steve Hanna, a veteran and a retired New York police officer, our forge is dedicated to creating unique, handcrafted metalwork that combines functionality with artistic beauty.
As a veteran and a retired police officer, Steve can honestly say that many broken roads have led him to life in the beautiful Northwoods of Northern Minnesota. Steve’s fascination with blacksmithing began during his high school years in Malone, New York. Volunteering to help rebuild Almanzo Wilder’s 1843 homestead ignited a lifelong interest in traditional metal working techniques. Almanzo Wilder was an American Farmer as well as the husband of Laura Ingalls Wider This early experience cultivated a deep appreciation for transforming raw metal into functional pieces and art.
This led to a passion for the old ways of building and how things worked. Steve appreciates taking a piece of metal that most people would consider junk and turning it into pieces that are functional and beautiful. After years of service, life’s winding paths led Steve to the serene northern part of Minnesota. Embracing retirement, he discovered a fully equipped forge shop at his new home, reigniting his passion for metalsmithing. Today, Broken Road Forge stands as a testament to the journey of turning life’s challenges into creating opportunities.
